Our Approach
Operating across Residency by Investment, Real Estate and Hospitality, we integrate sustainability throughout the lifecycle of our projects - from investment to guest experience.
Our strategy is aligned with international best practices and built on a double materiality assessment, focusing on the ESG priorities that matter most.
Our ESG framework
Our strategy is structured around four pillars that translate our purpose into action and guide how we create long-term value across all areas of our business.
Creating sustainable value for all stakeholders
Sustainability is reshaping investment, real estate and hospitality. We create value by anticipating expectations and embedding ESG principles across our entire ecosystem.
We integrate ESG criteria into investment decisions, ensuring long-term value creation, risk mitigation and alignment with global sustainability standards.
We develop future-proof assets aligned with environmental certifications, improving efficiency, resilience and long-term performance.
We deliver responsible hospitality experiences, connecting guests with local culture while promoting more sustainable choices.
We invest in wellbeing, development and inclusion, building a workplace where talent thrives and performance is sustainable.
We contribute to urban regeneration, job creation and cultural preservation, generating meaningful impact in every destination where we operate.
Our 2030 commitments
Our 2030 roadmap sets out clear priorities and targets to guide our ESG journey, reflecting our commitment to progressively integrate sustainability across our business.

Our Success Stories

In the heart of Porto, Mercan developed the LEED Platinum Renaissance Porto Lapa Hotel and the Dr. Mário Soares Urban Park as a single vision for sustainable urban regeneration.
The project transformed 17,000 m² of degraded land into a new green lung with native species, restored streams and lakes, regenerating habitats, promoting community well-being, and setting a benchmark for regenerative tourism in Portugal.

At Forno da Telha, the signature restaurant of Holiday Inn Évora, Mercan connects hospitality with local identity through a sustainable culinary philosophy rooted in Alentejo traditions.
Working directly with regional producers, the restaurant values seasonality, biodiversity and responsible local sourcing while preserving cultural heritage. Housed in a restored rural building, the project supports local economies, revitalises traditional knowledge and creates authentic community-centred experiences.
