In Beja, Sundays are taking on a new cultural and gastronomic expression with the launch of "Domingos do Cante" (“Cante Sundays”), an initiative by Chaparro Alentejano, located within the Holiday Inn Beja. Debuting on May 31, the concept introduces a weekly lunch experience that combines regional cuisine, conviviality, and live Cante Alentejano performances.

The experience was designed “to revive the tradition of Sunday as a moment of gathering, valuing the table as a space for sharing among families, friends, residents, and visitors,” the restaurant explains, adding that “the concept embraces a relaxed atmosphere, with a selection of typical Alentejo flavors and musical accompaniment centered around cante, a core element of the region’s cultural identity.”

The lunch begins with a buffet of traditional appetizers, featuring regional cheeses and cured meats, typical salads, and hot dishes such as seasoned beans and vegetable cream soup. The experience also includes flame-grilled chouriço served at the table, reinforcing the convivial character of the meal.

The main moment revolves around a shared platter of grilled meats, with special emphasis on Garvonesa breed beef. The menu features three distinct options, with combinations including cuts such as sirloin, picanha, lamb chops, and black pork sausage, served with fries and corn on the cob.

The experience concludes with traditional desserts, extending the lunch into a moment of relaxation and celebration, while Cante Alentejano accompanies the entire meal, strengthening the connection between gastronomy and popular culture.
