The Alentejo is one of the country's largest tourism regions and, despite the growth it has recorded, still faces regional inequalities. As part of a special feature, Publituris visited Baixo Alentejo, making a stop at Holiday Inn Beja.

Holiday Inn Beja is the first hotel from an international brand in the capital of Baixo Alentejo. The Publituris publication wanted to find out what the main motivations for visiting are, which markets are already seeking out these lesser-known areas, and what operational challenges hotel properties in these destinations still face.

And if there is one thing everyone agrees on, it is the main motivation for visiting: the rest and tranquility that the Alentejo provides, combined with its traditions, gastronomy, landscape, and wines. As Diogo Fragoso, director of Holiday Inn Beja, summed it up, "it is everything together, the landscapes, the tranquility that the Alentejo brings, the gastronomy, the people, the wines, the olive oils."

Diogo Fragoso also highlighted the Cante Alentejano, which was classified by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2014 and which, in recent years, has gained prominence in the capital of Baixo Alentejo. "Beja is a hub of innovation in Cante Alentejano," he said, explaining that the property has been promoting lunches with Cante Alentejano, introducing this artistic and cultural expression to its guests.

At Holiday Inn Beja, Diogo Fragoso explained that the Portuguese market is "vital" for the property.

In Baixo Alentejo, Diogo Fragoso acknowledged that accessibility is "very limited," though he believes that, with recent government announcements, "accessibility will become a minor issue."
