Café Arts Celebrates São João with Street Food, Brunch, and Extended Festivities

The Arts Porto Hotel, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, is preparing to celebrate São João, Porto’s most iconic festival, with a series of experiences at Café Arts that bring together local traditions, authentic flavors, and a welcoming atmosphere for both residents and visitors.

On June 23, the hotel’s garden will become the center of the festivities with an outdoor activation starting at 2:00 p.m. Inspired by the spirit of São João, the open-air food and beverage offering will feature some of the season’s most traditional specialties, including bifanas, caldo verde, pão com chouriço, and broa served with sardines and roasted pepper salad. An outdoor bar will complement the experience with beer, Somersby cider, soft drinks, water, and classic cocktails such as mojitos and caipirinhas. No reservation is required.

Inside Café Arts, guests will also be able to enjoy the restaurant’s regular service in a festive setting decorated for the occasion, combining the comfort of the hotel with the vibrant atmosphere that defines Porto’s most celebrated night.

The celebrations continue on June 24, a public holiday, with a special São João Brunch available from 12:00 p.m. Featuring a generous Portuguese-inspired buffet, the menu includes regional cheeses and charcuterie, codfish cakes, mini Porto-style pork sandwiches, grilled sardines with peppers, traditional salads, and a selection of Portuguese desserts such as pastéis de nata, pão de ló, and mini Berliners. The brunch is priced at €20 per person, excluding beverages, and no reservation is required.

Extending the festive spirit beyond São João night, Café Arts will also host “Extended Saints” celebrations from June 15 through July 3. Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, guests can enjoy a traditional menu featuring grilled sardines, cornbread, and roasted pepper salad for €15 per person, available from noon until closing time. Designed to offer both locals and tourists an opportunity to experience one of Portugal’s most cherished seasonal traditions, the menu is available without reservation.

As part of the broader program, Café Arts will also host a São João balloon decoration workshop on June 20 in partnership with a local association, providing a creative activity that celebrates one of the festival’s most recognizable symbols.
