Amarello Hotel Praia Santo André, Tapestry Collection by Hilton is the First Hotel in the Alentejo to Receive LEED Certification

Amarello Hotel Praia Santo André, Tapestry Collection by Hilton has just received LEED Silver certification, a sustainability rating system for buildings. It is the first hotel in the Alentejo to receive this distinction.

The LEED Silver certification represents independent recognition of the environmental performance achieved by the hotel building and the integrated strategy that guided the project from its inception.

According to information provided by the hotel, among the main indicators that contributed to its certification is the efficient management of water resources. The project’s design made it possible to achieve savings of approximately 40% in indoor water consumption and 74% in outdoor areas through efficient water reuse and management solutions.

Another indicator relates to energy. By implementing solutions that promote high energy efficiency and infrastructure for the independent production of solar energy, the hotel reduces energy consumption by 35% and greenhouse gas emissions by 35.1%.

The “quality of the materials and the design of the interior spaces” also contributed to the certification, with the hotel recognized for its “excellent indoor air quality – resulting from outdoor air ventilation and air filtration systems – and for the use of natural lighting in more than 90% of regularly occupied spaces.”

Quoted in a statement from the hotel, Hugo Padrão, Director of Sustainability at Mercan Properties, says that the certification “is the result of the joint efforts of the various teams that contributed to the project and is aligned with the Group’s strategy of integrating high performance standards and international certifications throughout its portfolio. In addition to strengthening the Alentejo’s high-quality tourism offering, this certification provides the region with an example of hospitality developed in accordance with international sustainability standards.”

Opened in the summer of last year, Amarello is located just a few minutes from Praia da Costa de Santo André and features 44 rooms, a restaurant, an outdoor swimming pool, and a rooftop bar.
